As you may have heard the post office is getting ready to close many offices around the country.
Here is an office statement as printed in the Postal Mag.
Postal Service to Consider Closing Thousands of New Post Offices (And Replacing Them With a “New Concept”)
“The U.S. Postal Service is launching a major review of up to 3,600 post offices across the country for possible closure as it shrinks its network in light of declining mail volume. On Tuesday, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe will release a list of post offices to be studied for closing, as well as announce “a new concept” for possibly replacing them, postal officials said Wednesday.”
This new concept puzzled me so I dug deeper……
USPS to Announce New “Village Post Office” Concept
“The USPS will announce on July 26th a new “Village Post Office” concept. For smaller communities without a Post Office or other access to postal products, the Village Post Office will become a supplementary option – and an opportunity for local businesses, according to the USPS. This new retail option will be operated by community businesses, such as pharmacies, grocery stores and other local retailers or town halls and government centers.”
It seems that even the Post Office is jumping on board with the “Mega-Mart” concept of small “kiosk” type shops verses the once traditional “Mom/Pop” concept. Pretty soon you may be able to go to your local Mega-Mart, drop off your kids in the daycare & your dry cleaning, have your tires rotated, get your eyes checked, teeth cleaned, prescriptions filled and drop off your mail, and oh yes get some shopping done as well!
I miss the times when you could walk into a well established company that is owned and operated by people that truly have a passion for the products and services that they provide. A place where knowledge is happily shared from many years of experience and you feel confident in your purchase and any warranties. It seems that shopping is a gamble today, hoping that you purchased the best product to fit your needs. Worry that when you unpack the box all the pieces are included while always wondering if that great price was really worth it?
